Chicago Is Facing Real Challenges
Mount Greenwood Needs Engaged Citizens Now
These are real issues affecting your family, your property values, and your quality of life right now.

Rising Property Taxes
Mount Greenwood homeowners, already paying 1.4% of home value in property taxes, more than 1.6 times the national average, saw citywide residential bills rise a record 16.7% for tax year 2024. Loop commercial assessment cuts and rising CPS levies continue shifting the burden onto Far Southwest Side families.

Transparency Concerns
Mount Greenwood residents pay into Chicago's $1.3 billion annual TIF system with little say in how those funds are spent. The city's own Inspector General has repeatedly found Chicago fails to fully comply with its TIF Sunshine Ordinance, leaving taxpayers in the dark on where neighborhood dollars actually go.

Chicago Public Schools
Mount Greenwood parents in CPS District 9 deserve a stronger voice on decisions affecting their schools — from the removal of school resource officers and selective enrollment policy shifts to how CPS's move away from school choice could impact families who have built their lives around this community.

Development and Community Impact
Mount Greenwood residents have long protected their tight-knit neighborhood character while city investment has flowed elsewhere. As Chicago prioritizes downtown recovery and North Side development, Far Southwest Side communities deserve equal access to resources — not higher tax bills with less to show for them.

Healthy Families
Mount Greenwood's strong Catholic and working-class families have been the foundation of this neighborhood for generations. As Chicago expands government programs into family life and schools, residents deserve the right to raise their children according to their own values — free from bureaucratic overreach undermining community-led support.

Public Safety and Budget Priorities
Protecting Mount Greenwood's standing as one of Chicago's safest neighborhoods — ranking in the 87th percentile citywide — while pushing back against city policies that remove police from schools, limit officer authority, and threaten the community-focused public safety residents depend on.
